FT: Ross County 2-1 Livingston
Better performance than we thought we'd have after last weeks game. |

Bang goes our unbeaten record against them.
![]() Cup runs are fine but the season as far as we are concerned is the league campaign. Lets now concentrate on finishing as high up this league as possible. Be intersted to hear how we played.

You have to feel sorry for the people who went. 4 hour drive just to get beat and now another 4 hour drive.

Anyone who went to Dingwall EXPECTING a win was rather optimistic at best so the disappointment of a 4 hour journey following a close defeat to one of the better 1st division teams & beaten cup finalists would surely not be THAT bad for most people?

There was nothing between the teams. Their winner came from a deflected cross which just floated in perfectly for Barrowman. Lucky break for them. We needed to be a bit more threatening in their box but apart from that we were decent and the game could easily have gone to ET.
There were a few 'offsides' given against us which clearly weren't (I was right in line with them). Thought the ref was poor. He dished out some soft yellow cards which dug himself into a hole - he reached for his pocket to book Jimmy Scott for a soft tackle then realised he had booked him already and bottled it. Talbot was booked for blocking a pass upfield which left the County player clutching his ankle. The ref obviously wanted a non-contact game. Bullock clattering the County player in the box at our last minute corner was hilarious. That was my first sight of Russell and he looks really useful. He played really deep on the right at times but he gave them problems. Defence was good again, apart from failing to clear the lines for their first goal. A cup run would have been good - there's always the Scottish. But it's down to league business now, and despite today we're in good shape.

Have to say I was disappointed but not disheartened.
I agree the officiating could've been better (particularly the flag-happy far side linesman) but the team played well against senior opposition. When County went 2-1 up they basically ran the clock down by stifling everything they could, which is fair enough I suppose. Russell's goal was a cracker, with equal credit going to Robbie Winters for setting it up. So a lot of positives to take from the game into the League campaign.

We had far more than enough in the tank to win that game but we couldn't finish for toffee. The only thing I would criticise us for was getting absolutely hammered down the right side. Corcoran just stayed wide the whole game and was left in so much space.
Thought Bullock had a solid game. Good on him. Last edited by livijames; 1st August 2010 at 11:00 AM. |

I had no problem last week coming away from Hampden with a deserved defeat but I have to say that I felt a bit hard done by leaving Dingwall yesterday. There wasn’t a lot between the teams and but for a very inconsistent linesman we might just have snatched a victory. Di Giacomo was constantly allowed to keep playing from offside positions in the first half and one of those led to the build up to their first goal. It was all change in the second half especially when Rafa ran on to a ball and was one on one approaching their goalie only to be halted by a late flag from his nibs. I was sitting in the stand dead on line for both these incidents. But them's the breaks in fitba', I suppose, and we might benefit in a similar manner in another game.
Having said that it was pleasing to take on a team with a good squad of players from a higher division and match them well. We can now concentrate on the league while some of our rivals who are still n the competition play midweek. |

Disappointed to come away with nothing from that game. County didn't look any better than us, with us matching them through out. We possibly showed them a bit too much respect at times. Iain Russell scored a cracking equaliser, and overall the team played some decent stuff. Just never got the breaks at all yesterday.
On with League football now until the Scottish Cup starts.

Fairly unlucky there on both goals. First one Barr clears with a diving header to stop the County player from scoring and it goes right to Di Giacomo's feet while Cammy is stranded behind the two players on the ground. Second one, O'Byrne's header goes straight across goal to the giant at the back post. Admittedly, the player shouldn't have been allowed to get the ball from the throw in so easily. Both Keaghan and Sinclair were sleeping.

Russell done a lot more of the leg work for his goal than I remember at the time. Great build up play and timed his run brilliantly - good finish too.

If we'd scraped a win in this one, we'd have potentially been looking at a home tie vs St Mirren.
2nd round draw •Kilmarnock v Airdrie United •Brechin City v Dundee •Heart of Midlothian v Elgin City •Alloa Athletic v Aberdeen •St. Johnstone v Morton •Ross County v St. Mirren •Inverness Caledonian Thistle v Peterhead •Partick Thistle v Falkirk •Queen of the South v Forfar Athletic •Raith Rovers v Hamilton Academical •Dunfermline Athletic v Clyde |

Alloa v Aberdeen is a good draw, would've loved that one for Livi.

Steven Craig got County's third, so a proper ex-Livi affair.
